PRF-02 Case study
ProFarm
Developer — Team
Farmer decision-support web platform built for the NASA Space Apps Challenge. Brings crop guidance, district rainfall, a farm dashboard, soil knowledge, crop-yield maps, and reminders into one place. Won the Best Local Impact Award.
Key outcomes
- Best Local Impact Award — NASA Space Apps Challenge
- Six farmer-facing tools in one platform
- District rainfall explorer: actual vs. normal, charted
- Crop-yield map and farm dashboard (yield, soil moisture, weather, prices)
- Built under hackathon time limits
Context
ProFarm was built for the NASA Space Apps Challenge at VIT-AP, aimed at a practical problem: farmers make planting, watering and selling decisions from scattered, hard-to-read information.
Build
The platform bundles six tools: crop guides (rice, wheat, millet), a district-wise rainfall explorer charting actual versus normal precipitation, a farm dashboard with crop-yield, soil-moisture, weather and market-price views, a soil-type wiki, a Leaflet crop-yield map, and a reminders tool for farm tasks.
Detail 3
A small Express server handles signup and login, while the tools themselves are chart-driven pages (Chart.js and Leaflet over local datasets). The project received the Best Local Impact Award for technology with community applications.
